It is best to have impacted wisdom teeth removed while you are young & healthy (age 16 to 20). In young people the roots are not fully formed and the surrounding bone is softer. This allows for easier removal of the wisdom teeth which means less post-operative pain and faster healing.
To investigate the most appropriate timing, a full mouth x-ray (OPG) should be done at age 16 for girls and 17 for boys to assess the position, development and likelihood of normal eruption of the wisdom teeth.
