Welcome to WisdomTeeth.com.au – The wise word on wisdom teeth. After having removed over 10,000 wisdom teeth over 28 years we believe we are in a good position to advise and treat people. We believe that mother nature should NOT have given us wisdom teeth as like the appendix, they are virtually useless and only go on (in many cases) to cause pain and problems. Wisdom teeth should be investigated with a full mouth X-ray at age 16 or 17 and that the vast majority of wisdom teeth are likely to give trouble and should be removed BEFORE they do. The ideal time is when roots are ¾’s formed. |
It is best to have impacted wisdom teeth removed while you are young & healthy (age 16 to 20). In young people the roots are not fully formed and the surrounding bone is softer. This allows for easier removal of the wisdom teeth which means less post-operative pain and faster healing. To investigate the most appropriate timing, a full mouth x-ray (OPG) should be done at age 16 for girls and 17 for boys to assess the position, development and likelihood of normal eruption of the wisdom teeth. » email an xray for an opinion |
